[Poster Presentation] Investigation of performance difference by characteristics of instrument sound for specific musical instrument sound extraction based on NMF

Abstract(in English) Music sound signal contains many instrument sounds, however, it is difficult for amateur musicians to differentiate the particular instrument sound only by hearing. Recently, many researches for specific musical instrument sound extraction have been conducted. In this research, we employed Nonnegative Matrix Factrorization (NMF) for specific musical instrument sound extraction. NMF decomposes a spectrogram matrix into a basis matrix representing static spectral information and an activity matrix representing a time series of gains for each basis. However, each basis corresponds to a detailed component included in an instrument sound. Therefore, we separates input music sound signal into bases by applying NMF and reconstructs an instrument sound by clustering resultant bases. This paper describes the effect of characteristics of instrument sound upon the performance of the extraction.
