Modeling Localization Error Distribution in WAM Incorporating Signal Detection Performance

Abstract(in English) Wide Area Multilateration (WAM) is a new aeronautical surveillance system that can provide more accurate and frequent aircraft positions than the conventional radars. In the deployment of the WAM, receiver positions (called a constellation) has been designed by using Dilution of Precision (DOP) which enables predicting the localization accuracy. However, this conventional approach is too optimistic because of neglecting signal losses due to co-channel interference. Therefore, this paper presents modeling of localization error distribution incorporating the effect of signal detection performance. The proposed modeling introduces a concept of stochastic constellation, in which the constellation virtually changes according to the signal detection condition. As a result, the horizontal position accuracy can be more precisely predicted.
