[Invited Lecture] Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) Multiplexing as an Emerging Wireless Transmission Technology

Abstract(in English) Recently, wireless communication using Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) has drawn much attention as anemerging candidate of 5G/B5G technology. OAM is a physical property of electro-magnetic waves that are characterized by ahelical phase front in the propagation direction. Since the characteristic can be used to create multiple orthogonal channels, wireless communication using OAM can increase radio spectrum efficiency and expand the capacity of the scarce radiospectrum. To explore these possibilities, in the work reported in this talk we firstly introduce the basic concept of the OAMmultiplexing then provides our previous work that confirms the feasibility of the OAM multiplexing by conducting a proof ofconcept experiment at 5.2 GHz. Also, we describe our outlook the passivity of the exploitation of the OAM multiplexing in thesub-mmWave and/or mm-Wave frequency bands.
