Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we report prototyping of a computer automated and assisted marking system for handwritten math answers employing online handwriting recognition and clustering. Descriptive questions are indispensable for measuring the student's thinking ability and deep understanding. However, marking them requires large effort and time for teachers, and if it takes a long time to return marking, student's reviewing effect will be diminished. Thus, we propose computer automated and assisted marking. In order to reduce marking errors, this prototype performs automatic marking only if the recognition result is reliable when recognizing a student's answer, and if not, turn it to computer assisted manual marking. In order to reduce the manual marking time and fluctuation of marking by teachers, answers are clustered so that the teachers can mark answers group by group rather than one by one. This paper also presents a small scale experiment to show the possibility of automatic marking / assisted marking of handwritten mathematical answers.
