Single-way Inter-modal Crosstalk Distribution Measurement in Spliced FMFs based on Stimulated Brillouin Scattering

Abstract(in English) A space division multiplexing (SDM) transmission system has been intensively studied for large capacity optical communication systems. Mode dependent loss (MDL) and differential modal group delay (DMD) are specific design factors as regard an SDM transmission system. Inter modal crosstalk is closely linked to these factors and thus it is important to understand few-mode fiber links in detail. In this paper, we present the distributed measurement of single-way inter-modal crosstalk based on a Brillouin optical time domain analysis (BOTDA) technique. Additionally, we compare the results obtained with this technique with the single-way and round-trip inter-modal crosstalk obtained with conventional methods, and confirmed that they are evaluated as the single-way inter-modal crosstalk.
