| Abstract(in English) | We conducted a basic survey on captioning of non-speech information (NSI) for a movie. We used North American version and Japanese version of Godzilla (2014) for the survey. We counted frequencies of non-speech information captions in both English and Japanese and classified the NSI captions into categories based on the past research. We found that there were considerable differences between English and Japanese NSI captions and we found about three times as many English NSI captions as those of Japanese captions for the same movie. In terms of the content of the captions, we found many of the Japanese NSI captions were for sound effects, but there were many captions for paralinguistic information as well as sound effects in English. |
