Low Loss Coupling Technique between High-Δ PLC and Single Mode Fiber Ribbons

Abstract(in English) We developed a fiber ribbon with small mode-field diameter (MFD) comprised of a single mode fiber (SMF) and a high  fiber in order to reduce coupling loss between a silica planar lightwave circuit (PLC) having high relative refractive index difference (Δ) of over 5% and a SMF. Coupling loss between a 16 fiber array and a high  PLC is successfully reduced to less than 0.5 dB / facet for all ports using 8-fiber ribbon.
