Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Ferroelectric liquid crystals were expected to have the characteristic physical and electric properties because they showed the ferroelectric state at the liquid crystal phase. We investigated the ferroelectric and dielectric properties with the changes of measurement temperature and frequency in the surface stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal (SSFLC) cells. The remanent polarization and coercive electric fields as the ferroelectrics of the SSFLC cells were measured to be 0.72 mC/m2 and 4.1 MV/m, respectively. The fatigue properties indicated that the polarization was maintained the value of 97.7% after measuring 106 cycles. The frequency dispersion showed the dielectric relaxation due to the orientation polarization of liquid crystals at approximately 1000 Hz and suggested that the SSFLC cells could not show the ferroelectric state over 1000 Hz.
