The Study on Similarity Measurement between Ear Image and Latent Ear Print

Abstract(in English) Ear shape does not change remarkably by aging and has characteristics that enable you to identify individuals. Therefore it is used for a personal authentication system. In European countries, the latent ear print which is the latent pattern after the ear is pressed to a window or wall have been used for the criminal investigation. So far, many researches of matching between two ear images have been conducted. However, the research of the matching between the ear image and the latent ear print which is used for the crime detection has not been studied sufficiently and their similarity measurement has been conducted by police investigators manually. In this study, we propose the algorithm for the similarity measurement between the ear image and the latent ear print. As the first stage of this study, we report the results of template matching which is the most fundamental technique for the similarity measurement.
