High-Speed Visible Light Communication using Off -the-shelf Video Camera by Space Division Multiplexing

Abstract(in English) A visible light communication (VLC) technique using off-the-shelf video cameras such as built-in smart-phone camera is proposed. To increase the communication speed, ISQAM (Integration Sampling Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) combined with space division multiplexing are devised using multiple light sources. In the proposed method, the interference between signals from adjacent light sources are suppressed by image reconstruction. In evaluation experiments, four LEDs placed at 2 mm intervals were used as a transmitter. The decode error rates of the signals from the LEDs, which had been 0.64, 0.74, 0.71 and 0.62, were improved to 0 by using the proposed method. The experimental results indicated that the error rate increased as the distance between the LEDs and the camera became long. Causes of the performance deterioration and applications of the proposed method are discussed.
