Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Softwarization of existing network functions as Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) brings various advantages in network operation and management. However , commodity server-based VNFs have practical problems in that packet forwarding efficiency. Furthermore, overloads can occur at upper-stream VNFs because of the service-chaining nature. In this paper, we propose a novel packet aggregation method that encapsulates packets destined for a same next hop VNF without increasing latency. Encapsulation at network I/O processing between virtual machines and a host enables each hosts to aggregate short packets gradually through the service chain. Compared with another packet aggregation approach, this approach espessialy improves the efficiency of VM-base VNFs. Finally, the evaluation of the service chain consists of 2 VNFs shows that the throughput was improved by 170 % since the number of packets was reduced.
