[Special Talk] Variable Capacitance Devices and their Application to Power Supplies

Abstract(in English) Quantity of ac leakage current and value of distortion factor in capacitor current are discussed on new power component of Variable Capacitance Device (VCD). This component has terminals for controlling its capacitance. For varying the capacitance, nonlinear characteristics of dielectric are utilized in this device. When VCD operates in ac circuit, the ac leakage current from this device through dc control voltage source increases by the conditions of dc control voltage and so on. To solve this problem, we propose techniques for suppressing ac leakage current. Though VCD has strong nonlinear characteristics, the current through the capacitor is not distorted so much. Relations between ac leakage current and distortion in current waveforms are investigated. To evaluate distortion in waveforms, an application example is also introduced about ac power regulator.
