A Study of Task Scheduling for Mobile Edge Computing

Abstract(in English) Mobile edge computing which enables distributed computing with high performance mobile devices has been attractive recently. In mobile edge computing environment, communication cost is relatively increased when compared with wired networks. In this paper, we propose a new task scheduling algorithm for mobile distributed computing in heterogeneous computing and communication environment. Our proposed algorithm assigns an adequate processor to tasks in upward direction from the lowest task in DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) of workflow so that a task receiving aggregated data from upward adjacent tasks is tried to be assigned to the same processor as these adjacent tasks. This strategy of assigning these tasks to the same processor leads to reduction of data transmission among mobile terminals. Our preliminary evaluation with simple workflow model shows that our proposed algorithm improves communication costs and surpasses a conventional task scheduling algorithm in terms of total execution time.
