Abstract(in English) TVWS (TV white-spaces) has been expected to be responsible for wide area communications in heterogeneous vehicular networks. IEEE 802.22 is one of the standardized TVWS communication systems and capable of a wide coverage of 10-30 km for fixed point-to-multipoint wide area networks. Nowadays, demands for fully-covered and cost-effective mobile communication systems even in areas with low vehicle density motivate the application of IEEE 802.22 to the mobile communication. In this paper, the authors propose a new channel and CFO (Carrier Frequency Offset) estimation scheme applicable to the IEEE 802.22-based receiver for the downstream to support a wide area mobile communication in the long-delay multipath fading environment. The proposed scheme effectively utilizes channel variations of pilots arranged in adjacent subcarriers and expands the interpolation range without changing the PHY design of IEEE 802.22. For the upstream, a maximal-ratio combining diversity reception scheme with two diversity branches is applied to the receiver. The simulation results demonstrate the feasibility of wide are mobile communication based on IEEE 802.22 in suburban districts.
