Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) On September 11, 2011, we had a big earthquake in Tohoku area in Japan. The cruel experience provoked us into developing data and information sharing systems that must be used in disaster scenes. In my talk, I will introduce two systems that we are developing. The first one is the demand-addressable sensor network system (DASN), which is dedicated to nation-wide environmental sensing. To handle huge amount of sensed data, e.g., more than one million sensed data per second, a unique distributed database technique and an active sensing concept were introduced to DASN. The second system is the resilient information management system or RIM. By providing a standalone server with WiFi environment, RIM supports rescue actions and information sharing among the people in a disaster-hit region using their smartphones/tablets, even if the Internet and commercial phone/network infrastructure are not available.
