Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Automated driving technology to enable autonomous car driving without a human driver is a hot topic in these days and many research and development projects have been launched in Japan as well as USA and Europe. Automated driving is performed in a following cognitive cycle, i.e. the first action is cognition of the surroundings of the automated driving car using various kinds of sensors and driving related information such as route map and its position in a route map, then, the automated driving car creates a driving plan using these information, and simultaneously detects errors between the driving planned and its current position and it corrects the driving plan or its current position in a real time manner, just like a human driver. Wireless technologies are expected to play an important role for the automated driving. Typical examples include millimeter-wave car radar, vehicle-to-vehicle communications and road-to-vehicle communication. In addition, many research and development on 5G, i.e. fifth generation mobile communication system, is underway aiming at its commercial launch in 2020, and 5G is also expected to play an important role for automated driving. This invited talk overviews the roles of wireless technologies and considers the challenge of wireless technologies for the automated driving and their future perspectives. |
