| Abstract(in English) | Pachinko game is a popular pastime in Japan with a population of 10,700,000 players and a mega market of about 23.2 trillion yen (2015). Pachinko is a legal game in Japan; however, it is a kind of gamble so that there are some possibilities to become addictive. Mental excitement is regarded as a trigger for gambling addiction. However, quantitative analysis of the mental excitement during a pachinko game has not been performed to date. Thus, in this study, we measured cardiac rate while playing a Pachinko slot machine. We evaluated the degree of excitement based on the obtained results. The cardiac potentials of 10 volunteers were measured during games in a model recreation facility. In all the subjects, the cardiac rate increased significantly after winning a "big bonus" game with 1-min maintenance (p<0.05 vs baseline). In contrast, those who did not win a "big bonus" game showed no significant changes. In conclusion, it was suggested that cardiac rate be a useful quantitative index for evaluation of the mental excitement of a Pachinko slot machine player. |
