Effect of Pico Base Station Position in Heterogeneous Network with Non-orthogonal Multiple Access

Abstract(in English) Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) shares the same spectrum resources within multiple users. On the other hand, a heterogenius network (HetNet) has been implemented, recently. HetNet is a system in which pico base stations are placed in a macrocell and shares frequency resources with a macro base station. In HetNet, since the transmission power of the macro base station is large, it prevents the offloading of traffic to the pico base stations. Therefore, in this paper, NOMA is applied to HetNet. In the proposed scheme, the desired signal is extracted with joint detection to realize offloading to a pico base station. Numerical results obtained through system level simulation show that NOMA doubles the system throughput by enhancing traffic offloading. Also, the effects of offloading and the total throughput regarding the location of the pico base station is evaluated.
