Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper considers the power transfer phenomenon of a fan-to-windmill system. We assume that the system consists of only mechanical components exhibiting passiveness, reciprocity, and linearity. The fan is mechanically driven at a constant torque and generates air-flow power. The windmill receives the power and also reaches a constant-torque rotation. In such a steady-state motion, the torque is expressed as a linear combination of the angular velocities. An engineering interest is taken in the power transfer efficiency, which is defined as the receive-to-transmit power ratio. We derive a formula of power transfer efficiency in terms of the loading viscous coefficient. The load can be adjusted to lead the efficiency to its peak. The deduced maximum efficiency formula looks complicated. We then serendipitously introduce a figure of merit called kQ, which rewrites the formula into quite an elegant fashion. We also display a graphical chart that enables one to comprehend how the maximum power transfer efficiency relates to kQ.
