Hardware Accelerator for Radio-Resource Scheduling in Ultra-high Dense Distributed Antenna Systems

Abstract(in English) For the fifth generation mobile communication systems (5G), in order to increase overall system throughput, ultra-high-density distributed antenna systems have been studied. In the system, resource scheduling controls radio transmission of all antennas. The scheduling searches for the suitable combination of antennas and user equipment (UE) from a huge number of possible combinations within the limited scheduling period. This paper presents a novel scheduler with a hardware accelerator that accelerates the scheduling process and supports several approximate search methods proposed for the scheduling process. Experimental measurement shows that the scheduler with a hardware accelerator executes several search methods approximately 40 times faster than a scheduler without accelerator. Furthermore, the scheduler achieves higher system throughput without depending on the number of UEs by changing several approximate search methods. It will enable a practical 5G system to be developed.
