Spectrum Management with Weighted Combining of Sensing Results for Wireless LAN over White Space Spectrum

Abstract(in English) In this paper, a spectrum management algorithm based on weighted combining of spectrum sensing results is proposed for wireless LAN over white space (WS) spectrum. WS is temporally and geographically vacant frequency band that is originally assigned to a certain licensed wireless systems. Spectrum management is an important element of cognitive radio for operation over WS without interference to licensed wireless communication systems. To decide the channel in operation based on the information of channel use from database and spectrum sensing results, a modified algorithm based on the spectrum management in the IEEE 802.11af is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, multiple sensing results are weighted and combined for decision of updating status of frequency utilization. Impact of miss detection probabilities to the performance is evaluated for avoiding harmful interference to licensed wireless systems by computer simulation. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is superior to the original spectrum management algorithm in the IEEE 802.11af only based on the information from the database of frequency utilization.
