Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) People with upper limb disabilities need to use auxiliary equipment to operate personal computers. Instead of using a traditional mouse, they may employ methods that use a numeric keypad supported by a function of MouseKeys, manipulate a joystick or trackball using their residual abilities, or use a mouth stick or head stick to control the mouse. Each of these methods requires a lot of time and effort. We propose a new pointing method using an augmented reality marker. This system estimates the marker’s position, and synchronizes a cursor. Conventional augmented reality markers have poor accuracy in pose estimation, especially in frontal direction. We solved the problem by a novel principle using five reference points including conventional four points and the fifth special point. We can extract pose information from the positions of reference points by image processing. The developed marker (PINMarker) and the processing algorithm enable high-accuracy pose estimation even by frontal observation. When PINMarker was observed from frontal direction by camera, the z-axis standard deviation error average was 0.012deg. In the conventional markers, it was 0.567deg.
