Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | As one of the caries treatments, it is most popular to eliminate infected tooth substances with a dental cutting turbine. However, it takes much time for dental students to master this cutting, primarily due to subjective and/or abstract education techniques. Then it is strongly required to make the cutting instruction more concrete and effective in dental education. To answer such education needs, we constructed an optical motion capture-based system for measuring the 3D motion of the operator’s upper extremity and a dental cutting turbine simultaneously during tooth cutting motion. To verify efficiency of the proposed system, we measured the motion of cutting a class I cavity in the lower first molar employing 5 experienced dentists, subsequently carrying out a time series analysis of the position and orientation of the turbine and the orientation of the upper extremity. Consequently, it was verified to be able to obtain the time series data of the afore-mentioned motion parameters with required spatial resolution and without data missing. |
