Simplified and high speed BOTDA employing frequency-swept pulses

Abstract(in English) In recent years, research on optical measurement technology using Brillouin scattering capable of measuring temperature and strain distribution has been conducted aiming at applying the structural health monitoring. We have proposed a vibration measurement method, employing frequency sweep pulse, which can measure Brillouin frequency shift change from oscilloscope waveform of received probe pulse. In this paper, we demonstrate the Brillouin frequency shift distribution measurement of 10 km fiber within a measurement time of 0.33 s with an accuracy of ± 0.9 MHz, and describe the advantages of the proposed method with the simplified equipment setup to the conventional BOTDA.
