Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We fabricated Josephson junctions with ferromagnetic layer (superconductor/ferromagnetic/insulator/superconductor, SFIS Josephson junctions), in which phase difference between superconductor electrodes could shift by π by exchange interaction in the ferromagnetic layer. The electronical characteristics of SFIS Josephson junctions are known to be extremely sensitive to the ferromagnetic layer. Assuming switching device in circuit applications, it is required that 0- and π-Josephson junctions be distinctively fabricated, have high critical current density and fast switching speed, and achieve small spreads acceptable for large-scale integration. In this paper, we present dependence of SFIS junction characteristics on the ferromagnetic layer thickness and spreads of critical currents. We use PdNi alloy (Ni ratio: 11%) as a ferromagnetic layer. Our experimental results showed that the critical current density decreased exponentially as the thickness of the ferromagnetic layer increases, and that π junctions were obtained with a 7-nm and 9-nm thick layer. We also found the spreads of critical currents, 1σ was below 2%, which suggested that ferromagnetic Josephson junctions can be applied for very large-scale integrated circuits.
