Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Microwave auditory effect refers to phenomenon that a pulse of microwave induces hearing sensation. A speech signal is encoded by pulse code modulation, and then a microwave beam, which serves as a carrier, is irradiated onto the head of a recipient so that microwave auditory effect decodes the modulation so as to regenerate the acoustic signal in the head. In the pulse code modulation, when an amplitude of the acoustic signal is large, the electromagnetic energy impinged upon the head is large accordingly. Each pulse is divided into a plurality of short pulses so as to satisfy the safety standard of microwave.
