Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A study on visual-auditory interaction reported that visual-target detection was facilitated by simultaneously presented auditory stimulus, but the effect of facilitation was independent of their relative position. However, visual stimuli were limited to central vision in that study. Humans are capable of receiving visual information from peripheral vision as well. To investigate the effect of auditory stimuli on visual-target detection in more natural situation, we construct an experimental system composed of multiple displays and loudspeakers which can simultaneously present visual and auditory stimuli at any retinal eccentricity. Our experimental results show that positional relationship between visual and auditory stimulus affects visual detection when visual targets are presented in peripheral vision. This result indicates that the effect of auditory stimulus on visual information processing differs in central vision and peripheral vision.
