Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A brain-computer interface (BCI) is a system that can operate several devices using only brain signals and is expected to provide a way of interaction with objects and communication with others for people with severe motor disabilities. Previous studies suggested the possibility of auditory BCI that estimates the virtual sound source selected by the user from the brain waves (P300) when spatially arranged sound stimuli were perceived. However, compared to visual BCI which obtains a larger information transfer rate (ITR) in past research, it has not been yet developed the auditory BCI system using virtual sounds with sufficient ITRs. In this study, we examined two-target experimental paradigms to increase message (number of selections) per trial. In this experiment, we set combinations of two sound directions as targets. The results showed that five out of ten subjects exceed 70 % of identification rate. From these results, it is suggested that increase of ITR with the two-target task is possible.
