Abstract(in English) | Recently, huge amount of Wireless LAN access points (APs) are widely deployed in public spaces such as station and park and WLAN interface is commonly installed in mobile station (STAs) such as smart phones. Hence, ultra dense WLAN environment will be likely to appear in the near future. In this ultra dense WLAN deployment, the communication performance is drastically decreased due to the performance anomaly problem caused by the deference between STA's airtime. Moreover, the transmission delay is inherently increased due to not only frame collision but also frame losses by the hidden terminal problem. However, since STA commonly connects an AP with the highest received signal strength indicator (RSSI) obtained from received beacon packets, from among all neighboring APs. Since RSSI does not consider the overhead of higher (upper than MAC) layer, communication performance cannot be guaranteed by RSSI. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new AP selection scheme. First, our proposed scheme selects a channel that can avoid the performance anomaly problem. Second, an AP with the highest estimated throughput performance is selected. The transmission waiting time and collision rate of beacon packets are used to estimate the throughput performance. Through simulation experiment, we demonstrated that our proposed scheme can achieve airtime fairness of all channels, while improving the average throughput performance by 32%. |
