Implementation and Evaluation of the Dynamic Filtering Mechanism using a Machine Learning on the In-vehicle Security Gateway

Abstract(in English) In-vehicle devices such as infotainment and telematics devices have been connected to external networks because of the development of the wide area networks such as the Internet, thereby increasing vulnerability and information risks of the in-vehicle LAN and Electronic Controller Unit (ECU). In this paper, we propose and design the security gateway with a dynamic filtering mechanism that uses a machine learning for the CAN traffic on the in-vehicle LAN, in addition to the static filtering. We also implement this gateway and apply it to the in-vehicle LAN traffic. To evaluate the performance of proposed gateway, we compare accuracy rates when the gateway classifies a message, and average processing time per message each for the setting parameters to machine learning. Finally, we demonstrate the performance of proposed gateway.
