Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Nodding has various communicative functions in humans, such as response, agreement, and turn-taking and can also create various positive impressions in communication by the person exhibiting the behavior. On the other hand, communication robots are widely used by gradation in our life. Therefore it is expected that the number of communications between human and robots will increase and robots will facilitate human’s communication more frequently. We thought if robots reproduce nodding effects of human communications, it can facilitate human-robot communications. This paper implemented a robot which is controlled based on human’s nodding parameters (number of continuous nods and periodic time). Then we evaluated nodding parameters of robots to make positive impression for human. We showed variable parameters based on human’s nodding distribution are preferred to fixed parameter in specific robots. In addition, we showed people prefer less number of continuous nods and longer periodic time than human nodding.
