Bottleneck Analysis on Packet Forwarding of an NDN Software Router

Abstract(in English) To investigate potential bottlenecks of an Named Data Networking (NDN) router, we highlight how each function consumes computation time (CPU cycles) and I/O bandwidth between hardware components in a computer. We implement a prototype NDN software router and empirically measure the consumption of CPU cycles and dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) channels. Based on the empirical measurements, we reveal several implications for designing high-speed NDN software routers on current commercial computers.
