[Encouragement Talk] Background task rescheduling considering communication task in AndroidOS for energy efficiency

Abstract(in English) Most of popular smartphone applications schedule background processing tasks to be carried out during the terminal’s inactive periods. For example, SNS applications periodically communicate with servers, and fitness applications periodically check sensor values. In Android OS, AlarmManager manages these periodically scheduled processing tasks (We call them “Alarms”) hereafter Since Ver.4.4, AlarmManager has new mechanism in which it runs as many Alarms as possible during the same time period in order to reduce energy consumption. However, currently this mechanism for this problem, we have proposed new Alarm management considering energy consumption in wireless communication processing that classifies Alarms into those including communication processing and those that do not include communication processing and performs Alarms that fall into the former group in the same time period. This paper shows the degree of energy consumption of this method through experimental performance evaluation over about 6 hours.
