Estimation of Intensity of Random Noise for Improvement of Surface Texture in Small Area of the Natural Image

Abstract(in English) It was reported that Random noise is effective to improve the surface texture. When the impression of surface texture changes by adding random noise, we need to estimate the appropriate noise intensity for the improvement of surface texture. In our study, we have focused on the fractal dimension as the feature quantity to estimate the noise intensity. In this paper, we propose an estimation measure the appropriate noise intensity based on fractal dimension, and attempt to apply to natural images. It is seen in our experimental results using some texture images that the fractal dimension increases steeply when the noise intensity is small, and the amount of change of the fractal dimension is smaller according to the noise intensity is large. As the results, the appropriate noise intensity for the improvement of surface texture can be obtained using difference of fractal dimension. In order to apply to natural images, we expanded the proposed measure to estimate noise intensity in small area of natural images.
