Development of objective assessment measure to estimate mosquito noise based on cepstrum analysis

Abstract(in English) In the case of lower bit rate, the mosquito noise which is one of visual distortion is occurred around edge region in JPEG encoded images. Since mosquito noise depends on the content of the input image, it is difficult to estimate noise using only the JPEG encoded image. In our study, it is assumed that the mosquito noise is a periodic signal based on the Gibbs phenomenon. In this paper, we have proposed an estimation method for mosquito noise by cepstrum analysis, and an objective evaluation measure of mosquito noise estimation has been presented based on cepstral coefficient values in each encoded block when bit rate is changed in JPEG.
