Estimating Proper View-points for 3D Object Detection based on Principal Component Analysis in Point Clouds

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose a method for 3D object detection in point clouds.Our method projects point clouds to virtual cameras that have different viewpoints.We evaluate image features on the projected images to detect objects.By performing a backprojection of pixels detected as the candidates of objects on the projected images to 3D space (point clouds), we achieve 3D object detection.We apply Principal Component Analysis to target object's point clouds to estimate the appropriate projection direction where discriminative image features of target object can be extracted.Our estimation of the appropriate viewpoints of virtual cameras allows us to improve the accuracy of 3D object detection.Using public datasets, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
