Abstract(in English) | Recently preventive safety systems for automobiles, such as collision avoidance system, have been evolving and prevalent. Air-coupled ultrasonic sensors are used for obstacle detection devices for parking assistance system, because they are inexpensive. In parking assistance system, air-coupled ultrasonic sensors are attached via a through hole provided in the bumper of the automobile. For that reason, it is necessary to provide a through hole in the bumper of the automobile, which lowers productivity. And also appearance is deteriorated since the radiation surface of the air-coupled ultrasonic sensor is exposed to the outside. For these reasons a structure in which the air-coupled ultrasonic sensor is directly attached to the backside surface of the bumper without providing a through hole is required. However in this structure, the directional characteristics of the air-coupled ultrasonic sensor are expected to be affected by the bumper part. This paper presents a theoretical study for controlling directional characteristics for the air-coupled ultrasonic sensor attached to the backside surface of the bumper. |
