Fusion Splice of High-density Multicore Fiber

Abstract(in English) Fusion splices between high-spatial-multiplicity multicore fiber (MCF) with over 30 spatial channels by using swing electrode system (SWES) and end-view system (EVS) were demonstrated. We achieved low-loss fusion splicing of not greater than 0.32 dB at both single-mode 32-core fiber and two-LP-mode 12-core fiber, even though they have weak points for splicing of large distance between center of the fiber and cores and higher-order mode, respectively. These results indicate SWES and EVS are effective for fusion splice of high-spatial-multiplicity MCF.
