Fabrication of hollow optical fiber for terahertz wave based on dielectric film tube

Abstract(in English) Hollow-metallic optical fibers loaded with an inner dielectric layer are fabricated to reduce transmission losses for THz waves. In fabricating process, polyethylene tubing with very thin wall thickness is drawn from a large diameter pipe and then a silver film is formed on the outside of the polyethylene tube by using a sputtering technique. The transmission losses are measured by a THz time-domain spectroscopy system and it is found that the dielectric-loaded fiber shows lower loss than Ag fiber at designed frequencies.
