Transient Dynamics of Brillouin Acoustic Wave on Frequency Swept Pulse for Fiber Loss Monitoring

Abstract(in English) We have proposed pulsed pump-probe Brillouin optical time domain analysis (ERA-BOTDA) for optical fiber loss measurement. We have also proposed a novel scheme for compensating gain profile variations along cables by using a frequency-swept pump pulse. The proposed scheme adopts a frequency-swept pump pulse for the ERA-BOTDA, in which enhanced sensitivity was experimentally confirmed after compensating for the Brillouin frequency shift (BFS) variation. This paper describes the details of the proposed scheme with a theoretical approach by analyzing the transient dynamics of the acoustic wave intensity during a Brillouin interaction with a frequency swept pump pulse, and presents the designed performance of a Brillouin-based loss measurement technique.
