Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Non-conductive oil droplets were deposited on a Au(111) electrode, the potential of which was electrochemically regulated in aqueous electrolyte solutions. Reshaping of the droplet due to the potential-dependent surface tension balance was strongly affected by various factors such as specific adsorption of anions. Intriguing phenomena we found includes (i) hexadecane always tends to fragmentation as small droplets even when much greater amount than monolayer equivalent is deposited, (ii) super oil-repellant property emerges at very negative potentials, and (iii) slightly water-soluble dichloroethane shows characteristic potential-dependent behavior. The use of in situ electrochemical fluorescence microscopic techniques even at the proximity of the metal surface is also discussed.
