Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It has been pointed out that there are cultural differences in the theory of the mind. It is known that children from the Australian culture pass standard false-belief tasks at the earliest point in development, whereas children from Japan pass the tasks the latest. For this explanation of cultural differences, “collectivism vs. individualism” is used, but there is no empirically validated study. Moreover there is empathy as a concept similar to theory-of-mind, however, The relationship between theory-of-mind and empathy has not been clarified. This study, therefore, we investigated the relationship theory-of-mind and “collectivism vs. individualism” and empathy. As a result, there was only a weak positive correlation between theory-of-mind and collectivism in Japanese.
