Abstract(in English) | In this study, we examined the influence of expectation of intelligence and the actual intelligence of the system in a word choice in verbal communication task. Since computers are more restricted in vocabulary than humans, humans try to talk to computers using less flexible languages. When humanity is added to the computer, the selection of higher freedom of words are chosen. Based on the notion of Pearson (2006), we designed a human-agent communication game where participants will input words and choose images while coordinating with the agent. Manipulating with high expectation on agents such are believed as acting intellectually, it was predicted that participants will use a more variety of vocabulary towards the agents. On the other hand, if the intelligence is low, it is predicted that participants will not use such variety of words and use the same words used during the task. We conducted two experiments and obtained results that support our hypothesis partially. The findings obtained in this research can be thought to bring new guidelines for human-computer language interfaces. |
