Message Transmission Scheduling with Forward Erasure Correction for Tandem Multi-hop Sensor Networks

Abstract(in English) This paper studies message transmission scheduling on tandem multi-hop transmission model with lossy unreliable wireless links, where each node periodically generates a message every T time-slots. Such a model is of practical importance, e.g., in monitoring a linearly extended facility in the wild by low-cost sensor network. Each message can be transmitted from a node to an adjacent within each single time-slot, and should be relayed in a store-wait-and-forward manner from its source node to one of gateways at the edges of the tandem within Ttime-slots. The proposed scheme consists of: (i) a static time-slot assignment over all links; and (ii) message selection for transmission in each assigned time-slot on each link. We develop an analytical derivation of an optimal static assignment for (i) and a message selection to give an equal opportunity to all messages passing the link in conjunction with a simple XOR network coding-based proactive recovery for (ii). In this report, we conduct simulation-based evaluation using Scenargie for wireless communications. Simulation results showed that, the success delivery probability of the proposed scheme is comparable to that of ACK-based more complicated reactive recovery schemes.
