Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Depending on signal frequency, electrophysiological extracellular activities recorded by microelectrodes include relatively high frequency component spikes and low frequency component local field potentials (LFP). In the present study, we focused on stimulus locked synchronization of LFP activities in separated recording sites. Phase synchronization of LFP in early visual cortex of cat was investigated using Phase-Locking Value (PLV). In cat early visual cortex, we previously reported two stimulus locked PLV components in the frequency band of 45-55 Hz: an early component appearing at about150 ms after stimulus presentation and a sustained component from 150 ms to 1000 ms. In the present study, we extended the frequency band for analysis so that to cover 40 Hz or gamma band which has been frequently reported as the frequency band demonstrating physiological function related synchronization or de-synchronization. Three characteristic components were found in the PLV. Each component showed tuning to frequency. Functional roles of these three components were discussed. |
