Numerical analysis of a dielectric nanorod antenna at optical frequencies

Abstract(in English) A dielectric nanorod antenna is studied at optical wavelengths using the FDTD method. Consideration is first given to a modification of a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguide for feeding. To efficiently excite the dielectric nanorod, we introduce a T-shaped exciter between the nanorod and the MIM waveguide. Next, the radiation characteristics of the dielectric nanorod antenna are evaluated in free space. It is found that a high directive gain of 10 dBi is obtained using phase interference between the guided and radiation modes. Then, the transmission loss is compared in the two scenarios of a wireless dielectric nanorod antenna link between points 1 and 2 with two identical nanorods and a direct MIM waveguide of the same thickness as the feeding line. Final consideration is given to a dielectric nanorod antenna placed on a substrate and the effects of the substrate on the radiation characteristics are discussed.
