Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The present electric rooter operates using O/E and E/O conversions, which consumes higher power in the future higher-bit-rate optical communication systems. In order to realize all-optical signal processing, optical memory is one of the key devices. We have proposed a novel optical memory which consists of silicon waveguide microring resonator (MRR) and magneto-optical (MO) materials. In the optical memory, data writing is achieved by coupling an intense light pulse, heating the MO materials on the MRR and reversing the magnetization direction of the MO material. In this paper, we fabricated MRRs and MRRs with heating layers, injected intense light pulses into the devices, and observed nonlinear optical effects incorporating thermal and free-carrier effects in the MRRs.
