Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is necessary to subjectively evaluate speech intelligibility, that is, how comprehensible speech is, in each acoustical condition. However, listening tests require enormous time and costs. Then, objective speech distortion measures have been proposed with various models under specific conditions. There is no versatile distortion measure. It is also difficult to establish a distortion measure for severely distorted speech. This study aims at investigating the relationship between the subjective speech intelligibility and objective spectro-temporal variation of speech distortion. Multiple regression analyses are carried out, where the speech intelligibility and the means and standard deviations of sub-band spectral distortions are dependent and independent variables, respectively. It is confirmed that the speech intelligibility is influenced by both acoustical characteristics of background noises and the speaking rate of the target speech.
