Performance Evaluation of Online Probabilistic Activation Control of Base Stations Based on Observed System Throughput Under User Mobility Environment

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we investigate the influence of user mobility in our previously reported online probabilistic activation control of BSs. In the reported method, the network-level system throughput is shared by BSs in the limited range by using the inter-BS information exchange regarding the system throughput observed at each BS. Based on the obtained network-level system throughput, all pico-BSs independently control their activation in probabilistic manner. The reported method is practical compared to the conventional approaches, since the reported method does not rely on a priori knowledge of probability distributions of user locations or the traffic load in the entire system coverage. However, the evaluation of the reported method in the previous work does not consider the user mobility. In this paper, by using the computer simulation, we evaluate the system throughput performance of our reported method under the user mobility environment. The performance of the reported method is dependent on the update period of the activation control of pico-BSs. However, when we assume the pedestrian environment, it is shown that the update period of approximately 100 ms is sufficient to achieve most of the potential performance gain of the method.
