Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Network emulation environments are useful for developing network applications. An network emulation environment abstracts a part of a network system using a network simulator and uses real protocol stacks running on an operating system and user applications. Some network simulators that have a network emulation function obtain information about Ethernet frames from a virtual Ethernet device called a network TAP device, and simu- late the their behavior in the physical layer and the MAC layer. When considering the behavior of wireless LAN management applications, it is nessesary to exchange control information between these applications and wireless LAN devices. The network TAP device cannot simulate these behaviors. Therefore, we designed and implemented wireless network TAP device (wtap80211) which can exchange control information and IEEE 802.11 frames between the user space and the kernel space. wtap80211 is applicable to evaluate wireless LAN management applications, such as hostapd and WPA supplicant.
